Southwest Indiana Startup Motivating Systems Receives Investment From Elevate Ventures and Others

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Motivating Systems, a Software-as-a-Service startup developing systems that help organizations motivate people to do their best, raised a funding round from Indianapolis-based Elevate Ventures with participation by others.

This Southwest Indiana startup is putting an emphasis on positive reinforcement to help curate and promote organizational culture and positive relationships. The software developed by Motivating Systems collects data that is easy to track, report, and analyze. This data helps organizations reinforce and improve specific behaviors through an intentional focus on positive recognition.

“Motivating Systems has a strong team and product, and has established itself as a potential market leader within its industry,” said Eric Steele, Elevate Ventures Entrepreneur-in Residence in Southwest Indiana. “It’s startups and scaleups like this that we want to see more of in Southwest Indiana, the type of innovation-driven high-growth companies that can benefit from Elevate Southwest Indiana’s support and resources.”

Last year, Elevate Ventures and the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana entered into a three-year, $2.5 million partnership named Elevate Southwest Indiana to develop a culture and infrastructure of sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship in the Southwest Indiana region. Motivating Systems is one of 43 high-potential startups that looked to Elevate Southwest Indiana for advice and guidance in 2018.

Motivating Systems’ flagship product is PBIS Rewards, an affordable schoolwide system that helps schools manage their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) program. The mobile product grew out of Lieberman Technologies working with a middle school to solve tracking and reporting issues that came with using a paper-based system. Later, the partnership that owns Lieberman Technologies formed Motivating Systems. Since 2015, the company has more than doubled its customer base each year, growing from being used in one middle school in Evansville, to being used by over 1,000 schools. Now, PBIS Rewards is used by schools in 47 states and is in 7 countries throughout the world.

“The investment by Elevate Ventures and others is going to enable us to reach and help more organizations. I have worked in technology for more than 15 years and have never had such a profound personal connection to the success stories of our customers than I have with Motivating Systems,” said Andrew Epperson, Motivating Systems VP & Chief Marketing Officer. “And with our own internal use of Workplace Rewards, we have improved and enhanced our own office culture and employee engagement. We truly want to help other organizations experience the same results.”

With the funding, Motivating Systems is looking to further advance product development, expand its marketing reach to include international markets and continue growing its team. After beginning 2017 with a staff of seven, the company has now grown to 21 team members. Lastly, with the addition of Workplace Rewards, Motivating Systems wants to bring a similar impact and benefits to organizations outside of the K12 educational space.
