Roadtrip Nation to visit Ting Gootee, CIO at Elevate Ventures

Roadtrip Nation LogoOn August 8, three young adults set off on a roadtrip via Roadtrip Nation to meet various professionals across Indiana. Their goal? To learn about the struggles and successes these professionals have faced and how they figured out the age-old dilemma, “What should I do with my life?”

Participants include Shannon, a 21-year-old Beech Grove native studying plant science at Purdue University; Dengke, a 19-year-old currently at Purdue University who emigrating from China at age 7 and landed in Portage; and Jaedyn, an 18-year-old hailing from Kokomo.

They were selected to participate in Roadtrip Nation, which empowers individuals to explore who they are and what they want to do with their lives. Through a public television series, online resources, and an educational curriculum, Roadtrip Nation helps career-seekers connect to real-world professionals and discover pathways aligned with their interests.

During this 10-day journey, Shannon, Dengke and Jaedyn will visit Indianapolis, Lafayette, Delphi, Warsaw, Seymour and Fishers. Each stop will introduce a new occupation. From farmers to directors of sports medicine research and development, these young adults will get an overview of a variety of career choices.

The last scheduled stop on the route lands the group back in the state capital, where they will meet Ting Gootee, Chief Investment Officer at Elevate Ventures.

Ting is excited to meet the young adults, share her story and discuss what some future careers may look like. She’s also a perfect example to show that not all career choices follow a straight path.

Ting is a first-generation immigrant from Changsha, Hunana province, China. She studied English Language and Literature at Peking University in Beijing. In 2001, Ting made the jump to the United State and pursued her Masters in American Studies at Purdue University. Additionally, she earned her MBA in 2010 from Indiana University.

Eventually, her experience led her to be a founding member of Elevate Ventures, a venture development organization dedicated to helping high potential startups and early stage companies grow into high performing Indiana-based companies. While the path that led her to work in venture capital may not have been typical, she has continued her work at Elevate Ventures as Chief Investment Officer. Since then, she has expanded in the venture capital community, becoming President of Venture Club of Indiana as well as continuing her education, recently earning a Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement.

Ting will meet the Roadtrip Nation participants on Friday, August 18 at Elevate Ventures.
