Heliponix and Safekeeping Move on to State Pitch Competition

EVANSVILLE— (June 18, 2019) — A regional pitch competition hosted by the Venture Club of Indiana was held on June 11, 2019, in Evansville. Of the five companies that pitched, two companies walked away with prizes and the opportunity to pitch at the statewide competition, the Innovation Showcase, in August.

First place went to Heliponix, a company that builds and sells the GROPOD, an in-home hydroponic appliance used to grow fresh produce.  They took home a $500 cash prize and $5,000 of in-kind services from InGen Technologies.

SafeKeeping, an integrated care dashboard app for long-term care facilities that connects residents, families and caregivers, took home second place. Safekeeping will be the recipient of $1,500 of in-kind services from Gutwein Law.

“Participating in pitch competitions is a great opportunity for companies, no matter what stage of development they are at,” said Eric Steele, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Elevate Ventures. “Through events like this, Elevate continues to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem and to make sure Southwest Indiana is well represented throughout the State to investors and potential customers.”

Judges for the event included Mike Asem from M25 Group out of Chicago; Don Aquilano from Indianapolis-based Allos Ventures; and Aric Pryor from Quarion Technology, the 2018 Innovation Showcase State winner who commented, “It was an awesome event with great attendance.  The five founders that pitched did an outstanding job and really made our job challenging as judges.  I’m confident that Southern Indiana will be represented well at the 2019 Innovation Showcase in Indy.”

With regards to how last year’s win has benefitted his startup, “Winning the 2018 Innovation Showcase has been great for Quarion. The publicity throughout Indiana and the Midwest has led many potential clients and investors to me. I plan to continue growing Quarion and show that Indiana has unrivaled ideas, founders, and businesses.”

In addition to Elevate Southwest Indiana, sponsors included InGen Technologies, Gutwein Law, and the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville.
