Guevara Appointed to Velocities Board

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Tom Guevara has been appointed to the board of directors of Velocities, a partnership between Elevate Ventures, the Dimension Mill, and the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce that promotes entrepreneurship in south-central Indiana. Guevara has an extensive background in economic development and public policy in Washington, D.C., and Indiana.

Guevara succeeds Lynne Coyne, who served on the board for nearly two years.

“Tom has stepped right in to help the efforts in our region,” said Cy Megnin, the Elevate Ventures entrepreneur-in-residence in the region. “The experience he brings to the table is going to be a great asset as we continue to build our entrepreneurial ecosystem.”

Guevara is director of the Indiana University Public Policy Institute. He previously served six years as deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration. He also co-chairs the Innovation Policy Forum at the National Academy of Sciences.

In Indiana, Guevara also served as assistant budget director for the Health and Human Services division of the Indiana State Budget Agency, and as controller for the city of Bloomington.

Guevara is dedicated to public service and working with others to improve quality of life for Hoosiers. He said that Velocities’ focus on small businesses is crucial to enabling the economy to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting recession.

“The Bloomington and Columbus markets are full of talent and ideas for new and exciting businesses, and we need to make sure that resources are available for them to create the next generation of products and services,” said Guevara. “I’m excited to join a board that is committed to accelerating and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in south-central Indiana.”
