Garatoni and Millard join Elevate Ventures Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Elevate Ventures, an Indianapolis-based venture development organization, added two new directors to their board, Larry Garatoni and David Millard, and elected Phil Lodato as non-board Secretary. Newly elected board member, David Millard, commented, “I am honored to be joining the Elevate Ventures board of directors. Indiana is in a unique position and I am excited to support Elevate’s key mission to nurture and develop Indiana companies.”

In their respective roles, they will work alongside current board members Robert Myer, John Sampson, Steve Martin, and Chris LaMothe, to promote Elevate Ventures’ mission to nurture and develop emerging and existing high-potential businesses into high-performing, Indiana-based companies.

“Larry brings decades of experience in a multitude of different industries that will be invaluable to our board, and prior to his retirement from the practice of law, David was arguably one of the most prolific deal attorneys in Indiana and an early advocate of entrepreneurial support and investment” said Elevate Ventures’ chief executive officer, Chris LaMothe. “They will be an asset to Elevate’s future as we work to build the entrepreneurial culture in Indiana.”

Elevate Ventures, established in 2011, is a not-for-profit organization focused on the growth and development of Indiana companies. They not only provide investment dollars for companies in need of capital, but also provide rigorous business analysis and robust advisory services that connect companies with the resources they need to succeed long-term. To date, Elevate has invested roughly $33MM in 52 Indiana companies leveraging an additional $225MM in follow-on private investment.

Larry Garatoni, Founder of HQ Investments. Mr. Garatoni co-founded the Career Academy and founded the Success Academy, two charter schools offering the full K12 continuum for 1300 students. Garatoni began his career in 1964 when he and a partner built and operated a long-term care facility. From 1969 to 1994, Garatoni founded and operated several companies under Health Quest Group. From 1994 to 2007, he served as chief executive officer at several software and Internet sales companies. In 2007, Garatoni founded HQ Investments LLC, based in Mishawaka, which manages investments in public equities, private equities, hedge funds, venture capital and angel investing. The company also supports K-12 education-focused philanthropic activities and manages the Garatoni Family Foundation.

David Millard, Of Counsel (retired) with Barnes and Thornburg. Mr. Millard was Chair of Barnes & Thornburg’s Corporate Department prior to his retirement. He counseled large-cap, middle-market and high-growth businesses, as well as venture capital and private equity funds. His legal practice included providing services in connection with acquisitions and sales of businesses, joint ventures, collaborations, strategic alliances, rollups and industry consolidations, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, capital raising and business finance, strategic planning, business restructurings, fund formation, and commercial contracts. Mr. Millard represented high profile businesses across a wide array of industries. He has served as President of The Venture Club of Indiana, as well as the Entrepreneur’s Alliance of Indiana, and has been Chair of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council. Mr. Millard has also served on the Board and the Executive Committee of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
