Elevate Ventures Honors Five Statewide Winners at Kinetic

INDIANAPOLIS — Elevate Ventures presented its first Elevate Awards during the second annual Kinetic portfolio conference on May 2 at the Biltwell Event Center. The five categories and winners are:

1. 2018 Region of the Year Award: Startup South Bend Elkhart
The winner of this award had the highest number of Elevate Ventures deals (21 Fund and Indiana Angel Network Fund only) per capita from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2018.

The mission of the Startup South Bend – Elkhart board of directors is to promote and foster the creation of an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the South Bend – Elkhart Region by stimulating the entrepreneurial spirit and culture in its citizens, identifying and nurturing new business startups and supporting the growth of existing high-potential businesses. The board is focused on activities focused on the relationships, people, culture and support services that make up the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Gary Neidig, President of ITAMCO and Chairman of the board for Startup South Bend-Elkhart accepted the award.

2. Community Champion of 2018 Award:  Kent Lanum, Jeffersonville, Ind.
This award recognizes an Elevate Ventures regional board member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to support their region’s entrepreneurship and innovation initiatives.

President and CEO of the Ogle Foundation, based in Jeffersonville, Ind., Kent Lanum has been instrumental in reawakening the vision for an entire region on how they can work together to support innovation and entrepreneurship. In 2018, he pulled together top business and economic development leaders to launch and fund a new Elevate Ventures region that is invigorating entrepreneurship through both Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky.

3. Largest Funding Round of 2018 Award: On Target Laboratories, West Lafayette, Ind.
The winner of this award is the company that closed the largest funding round in 2018 in which Elevate Ventures participated.

Elevate Ventures has worked with On Target Laboratories since 2016, when it was first being funded through federal government research grants to develop precise, innovative small molecules whose goal is to target and illuminate cancer and other diseased tissue. The company’s technical and business success was boosted in 2018, when Johnson & Johnson Innovation led a financing round of $40 million in this Purdue Research Park company.

4. Regional Business of 2018 Award: Curvo Labs, Evansville, Ind.
This award recognizes an Indiana business that exhibits current and future positive impact on the community. Each region nominated companies in their respective geographical areas, and Elevate Ventures ultimately chose the winner.

Curvo is a revolutionary clinical spend management platform that automates and modernizes hospitals’ and healthcare systems’ supply chains. The company continues to grow and bring new jobs to the Southwest Indiana community, while actively supporting the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Curvo currently has 12 full-time team members, including eight in Indiana, and ended 2018 with revenue growth over 350% when compared to 2017. Elevate got involved with Curvo in 2013. CEO and Co-Founder Andy Perry of Curvo Labs accepted the award.

5. 2018 Exit of the Year Award: Prosolia, Indianapolis
This final award honors the company that was able to reach the milestone that so many entrepreneurs seek: the exit.

Prosolia was honored for providing the largest return to its investors and staff in 2018. Publicly traded Waters Corporation acquired Prosolia’s DESI Mass Spectrometry business in July 2018. The acquisition included the sale of the exclusive rights to its desorption electrospray ionization technology for mass spectrometry applications, which was licensed through Purdue University. Prosolia President and CEO Justin Wiseman accepted the award.

The May 2, 2019, Kinetic event welcomed 455 attendees, including 52 speakers. Forty-five venture capital firms were represented at Kinetic, many involved in the 214 investor one-on-one meetings designed to directly connect entrepreneurs with investors looking for deals in Indiana.
